A look at what and how we table

From zines to artists' books with prose, sequential art, canvas work and photography:

The Janus Point Press Table is a treat to have at your event.

Our table hosts works that range for $2 handmade zines to $89 artists’ books. Our visual and literary based publications are celebrated in recent spaces like the Brooklyn Book Festival, and workshopped at institutions like Cornell College, Barnard, Kids Comics Unite, and soon the University of New Mexico. When we crowdfund, we’re always a coveted Kickstarter “Project We Love” recommended by the curated eye of staff. Most works, but not all, focus on the works of author Stephanie Nina Pitsirilos. Award-winning literary fiction, speculative fiction and Latinxfuturism, with a Nuyorican Puerto Rican lens. Always comic book realism. Our table represents works from Stephanie’s ANDROMEDA visual artist hat, to commissioned art pieces from renown style writing graffiti artists. Because we are a hub, we also sell anthologies from academic and indie presses that Stephanie has work in, benefit fundraiser prints, as well as original silk screen prints from recognized artists and healers. Our age group is mostly adult, with a few young adult and all-ages items.

Who we are

Stephanie Nina Pitsirilos (Co-Publisher)

NYC-born and bound, Stephanie Nina Pitsirilos is a critically acclaimed writer with works in numerous prose and comics anthologies, recognized as a new voice transforming the genres of science fiction and fantasy. Her stories reside also in the crudely folded and handsewn pages of zines and elegantly tucked inside perfumed silk clutches as artists’ books. Accolades for her work include: Kirkus Reviews;  The Chautauqua Institution; Publishers Weekly; Kore Press; Broken Pencil Magazine; Canzine; and AWP Conference & Bookfair. Her 2024 debut short story collection Event Horizon: Stories of No Turning Back received glowing reviews, and she’s the recipient of the 2022 Chautauqua Janus Prize for her story “Jean,” called “masterful” by Publishers Weekly. She creates visual art as ANDROMEDA. She’s a board member of Graphic Mundi. Read more about her and explore her works at www.stephanieninapitsirilos.com

Cyrus Amir Boquín (Co-Publisher)

Cyrus is principally a community physician activist concentrating his healing work within the immigrant and diverse communities of Manhattan. A Michigan-raised child of Honduran and Iranian heritage, he majored in Russian literature at Harvard and counts graffiti stylewriting, Taller Gráfica Popular and contemporary Latin American xilografía, Black printmaking greatness and Persian miniaturist art among his principal inspirations in art and fine press collecting and collaboration.  Chief among his numerous artistic curations and collaborations over the past 20+ years are major University and medical campus events involving: acclaimed and Pulitzer Prize winning authors, playwrights, musicians, poets and legendary stylewriters.

Janus Point Press

We’re a small publishing imprint and US registered trademark of Zoe Health, LLC. The press serves as a platform for selected prose and comics of author Stephanie Nina Pitsirilos and as a boutique publisher to artist commissioned pieces, artist’s books and print collections. We support the craftmanship of bookmaking. Janus Point also serves as a creative hub for artists.

What is “Janus Point”

“The Janus Point” is a term coined by physicist Julian Barbour. In his theory of time it’s described as “a unique point of minimal size in the history of the universe”, the Big Bang moment when time arrowed out in two directions with increasing complexity of matter. The Janus Point can be visualized as this middle point between the two, a shared beginning. The name references the Roman god Janus who looks out to the past and the future, and who is associated with beginnings and transitions. The two sides of the Janus Point are not mirror images of one another.

Human Made

Since the roll out of its Human Authored Registry, we register our major works with The Authors Guild, assuring readers and hosts that our books are human made, from concept to print to illustration. We hire humans for art, copy editing and proof reading.
